CITY LAUNCH SOCCER SIGHT
A NEW commentary service specifically for blind and partially-sighted supporters was officially launched at Carrow Road on Saturday, March 1, ahead of the game with Blackpool.
Soccer Sight is a Royal National Institute for the Blind project that aims to improve access to football venues and provide playing opportunities for blind and partially-sighted people in England and Wales. The project works closely with major football organisations and professional clubs to appraise and improve the facilities, stadia and services provided for blind and partially-sighted supporters at football clubs. The project, supported by the Football Foundation and HBOS, has identified the main issues concerning access to football for blind and partially-sighted people.
One of these is a dedicated audio commentary system delivered by specially trained commentators via headsets provided by the football club to those supporters who are blind or partially sighted sitting in any section of the stadium.
Representatives of Soccer Sight and the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind joined Club Chairman Roger Munby and City supporters Marcus Rawlings and Ian Banstead with their guide dogs Elliot and Ridley for the launch at the Blackpool match.
If you are an existing season ticket holder or member who would be interested in trying this service or would like more information please contact Norwich City's Disabled Supporters Liaison Officer, Alex Dewbery on 01603 760760 extn 2255 or alex@ncfc-canaries.co.uk
We would also like to hear from anyone who does not attend the matches at Carrow Road but would be interested in doing so with the aid of this commentary.
