GOALS from Welsh team-mates Carl Robinson and Robert Earnshaw and a last-minute own-goal were enough for the Canaries to take a much-needed three points off Leicester at Carrow Road.

After City boss Peter Grant called for more support from the terraces at the weekend he got the perfect response.

Crowd and team were as one as Norwich produced an excellent fightback after Patrick McCarthy's 23rd minute header had stunned the home fans.

But there was no silence or bickering, with the supporters getting right behind their players all the way through the match.

And in the last moment of first half stoppage time Robinson struck with a deft far post header to bring Norwich level, with Earnshaw's second half effort and substitute Gareth McAuley's own goal sealing the win.

One moment which soured the game slightly was the sight of Youssef Safri picking-up his fifth booking of the season, one which rules him out of Norwich's next home game, the visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

City boss Peter Grant reverted to a 4-4-2 formation for the visit of Rob Kelly's Leicester side.

Peter Thorne was handed his first league start of the season, rewarded for the part he played in City's opening goal against Hull on Saturday.

Andy Hughes was also given a place in the first eleven, taking the place of Paul McVeigh on the right.

Leicester were without former Canaries Darren Kenton and Andy Johnson, who were both injured. Former Canary loan player Elvis Hammond started in attack for them.

It was Leicester who kicked off proceedings, and already it was clear the City fans were willing to answer boss Grant's pleas for them to get right behind the players, with the Barclay in particular in good voice in the opening moments.

And on two minutes they almost had another reason to cheer when Norwich almost took the lead.

Defender Richard Steadman's slip allowed Huckerby to run in behind him. To his credit, the Leicester man recovered well to turn the forward's cross behind for a corner, but the resulting kick caused chaos in the area.

And when a clearance fell short, Dion Dublin lashed in a superb shot on the volley from 12 yards, which 'keeper Logan seemed to turn over his bar, even though referee Darren Deadman gave a goal kick.

Leicester looked to hit back, and on seven minutes had their first shot on goal.

Hughes' pass back to Dublin 30 yards from goal was too short, forcing the veteran to foul his man and give the visitors a free kick in a dangerous position.

Up-stepped in-form Iain Hume, but his well-hit shot went well over Camp's bar, with the on-loan Derby man covering for the injured Paul Gallacher.

Two minutes later and they came much closer to opening the scoring. Hammond was given far too much space in the City box away on the right, but his shot towards the near post merely finished in the side-netting when perhaps a square ball was the better option.

It was Leicester creating the better chances, and on 15 minutes Hume again found himself with a great opening.

The pace of Levi Porter took him to the by-line, and he delivered an excellent ball into the box which Hume met with a powerful header which whistled inches over the bar with Camp at full stretch.

On 20 minutes City were handed a blow when Adam Drury was forced off through injury.

He was replaced by Youssef Safri, with Hughes moving to left-back.

The captain's armband was handed to Huckerby, and within second he lashed a dipping shot just over Logan's bar from the corner of the box.

But on 23 minutes it was Leicester who drew first blood.

Tiatto hit a well-flighted free kick into City's box, and it was centre-back and visiting captain Patrick McCarthy who rose highest to power a header past the exposed Camp and put the Foxes into the lead.

It was a hammer blow to City, but it had been Leicester creating the better chances in the opening 20 minutes.

All the same, the Carrow Road crowd responded superbly, immediately launching into a rendition of On The Ball City - it was now up to the players to pay them back.

Certainly there was no doubting Norwich's spirit, with Robinson earning himself the first yellow card of the game on 26 minutes after coming off the better in a 50-50 challenge with Danny Tiatto just outside the centre circle.

Goalscorer McCarthy soon evened-up the yellow cards on 32 minutes for refusing to release the ball after Etuhu won a free kick just over the half-way line.

From Hughes' free kick, the Leicester defence made an awful hash at clearing the ball, but Thorne could only toe-poke a weak shot goalwards which was no trouble for the Foxes.

As the ball was cleared, Safri went up for an aerial ball with Tiatto, flattening him in the process and harshly earning a yellow card for his efforts.

But City were beginning to pose more of a threat, with Huckerby smashing a low shot into Logan's arms from 20 yards after Leicester gifted him the ball in a dangerous position.

With the referee's notebook filling-up, it was Huckerby's name which was soon added to the book for a late challenge on Stearman wide on the left.

Tiatto produced another dangerous free kick, and Hammond sent a decent header straight at Camp.

With the first half in stoppage time Norwich had two great chances to level things.

First a back-header from Kisnorbo fell straight to Earnshaw 10 yards out, but his mis-hit shot was blocked behind for a corner.

And from that kick, Robinson delivered an excellent out-swinging cross which was flicked on by Shackell, only for Thorne to head the second ball over the bar.

But City's chance wasn't lost, for with seconds remaining of the first 45 they did draw level.

Huckerby was the creator, hitting a delightful dipping cross from the left which was met by the head of Robinson on the far post. And from a tight angle he managed to send his header over the head of Logan and into the back of the net to send the home support into the half-time break with renewed hope.

Half time: Norwich City 1-1 Leicester City

There were no changes for either sides as they emerged for the second half.

The late goal had certainly lifted City, and on 52 minutes Stearman entered the notebook for taking down Huckerby as he threatened to break clear on the left.

There was certainly more fizz about Norwich, and on 57 minutes Earnshaw tried his luck from 25 yards with a dipping volley which dropped over Logan's bar.

But a minute later he came even closer. A quite brilliant flick from Huckerby put Earnie away and in the clear in the box. His low shot was well saved by Logan, and although Thorne went in bravely for the rebound, his shot finished inches wide of the far post.

All the same, it was a great move and one which deserved better than the final outcome.

But on the hour mark Earnshaw made not mistake with his next chance, making it 13 for the season and putting City 2-1 ahead.

Kisnorbo dawdled on the ball just inside the City half, and in came Safri to rob him and play a perfect through-ball to Earnshaw.

The Welsh hot-shot outpaced the last defender with ease, and as Logan came out to close the angle he dinked the ball over his body with inch-perfect precision to give City the lead.

Carrow Road was now rocking, and two minutes later Logan was forced into a point blank save from Earnshaw's header after Huckerby found him with an excellent cross.

On 66 minutes Peter Thorne's game came to an end, with the striker leaving to a standing ovation. He was replaced in attack by Ryan Jarvis.

His contribution was almost instant, as with his first touch he delivered a well-weighted pass into the stride of Earnshaw, who could only find the side-netting with just Logan to beat.

With the game in the last 10 minutes, Tiatto was yellow carded for showing his studs in a challenge with Earnshaw on the halfway line.

On 84 minutes a nice break by Huckerby saw the ball rebound to Jarvis on the edge of the box. He managed to get a snap-shot away under pressure, but it was too close to Logan who was able to gather the ball.

With the seconds counting down towards a much-needed three points, there was little doubting the City support on this occasion, with the Barclay in full voice, pushing the players on.

And in injury time their support paid off, with City sealing the points with a third goal.

Etuhu won the ball 40 yards from goal before playing a pass with the outside of his boot to substitute Eagle on the left.

He produced an excellent cross, which was flicked-on by Jarvis and into the path of Earnshaw behind him.

His first touch wrong-footed Kisnorbo, and his second was saved by Logan. But the ball ran straight into the path of McAuley, with it bounding off his knee and into the back of his own net.

Earnie wheeled away with his traditional celebration, but he would be going some to claim it.
