MEDIA REACTION TO CITY WIN
THE local and national media have been giving their reaction to City's excellent 1-0 win at Southampton on Tuesday night.
Graham Nickless in The Sun wrote: "Norwich loanee Ched Evans heaped more misery on managerless Southampton. Evans fired in his fourth goal in 12 games to give the Canaries a chirpy league double over the sorry Saints.
"The Wales Under-21 striker lashed home Lee Croft's pass in first half injury time to make it 10 league games unbeaten for City. No wonder Glenn Roeder is desperate to persuade Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson to extend the player's loan until the end of the season."
The Daily Mirror's report said: "Manchester City starlet Ched Evans earned Norwich only their fourth away win of the season. Evans rifled the Canaries into the lead on the stroke of half time with a well executed strike.
"Midfielder Lee Croft whipped in a dangerous right-wing cross for Evans to pick out the top corner with a fiercely struck right foot volley. And Stern John wasted a 69th minute spot kick for luckless Saints, who start interviews for a new manager today."
Meanwhile, Chris Lakey in the Eastern Daily Press wrote: "Norwich City's season just keeps getting better and better as their unbeaten run moved into double figures last night.
"A Ched Evans goal on the stroke of half time was enough to secure another three points towards the safety fund, built on the back of 10 Championship games without defeat. And while City will be grateful to the woodwork - and Stern John's wayward accuracy from the penalty spot - there's no doubt their work ethic got them through."
Rick Waghorn, from MyFootballWriter.com, added: "Ched Evans' fourth goal in 12 games on the stroke of half time proved enough to keep Glenn Roeder's Canaries storming up the Championship table with a narrow 1-0 win over managerless Southampton last night.
"The Saints would spurn a gilt-edged chance to level when Stern John lifted a truly ghastly penalty over David Marshall's bar in the 67th minute. Likewise they would hit the woodwork three times, but as the natives took out their fury on referee Andy Penn so the Canaries stole off into the night with three more huge points in the bag - 26 points from the last 39. That's the form of title winners."
On Southampton's official website, they wrote: "Saints were left wondering what they have to do to beat Norwich. For the second time this season they battered the Canaries, only to end up losing. But despite the disappointing scoreline, there was plenty of optimism at the end of a rejuvenated display which was a joy to watch. Even though Saints lost they were applauded off because they gave it such a good go, showing a spirit and adventure which has been all too rare in recent seasons."
