MEDIA REACT TO CITY WIN
NATIONAL and local media have been reacting to City's 1-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday.
Mel Henderson in The Sun wrote: "The Tykes were upstaged by a Norwich side missing three banned regulars. The Canaries have only lost once in 15 games - a remarkable revival under new boss Glenn Roeder.
'Jamie Cureton, wearing the captain's armband for the first time, marked the occasion with a superb 26thminute stunner for his ninth goal this season. Lee Croft's cross from the right struck defender Dennis Souza on the head and Cureton instantly chested the ball down and sent it soaring past Luke Steele on the volley.'
The Times reported: 'Glenn Roeder, the Norwich manager, was delighted with the manner in which his side bounced back from their 4-0 drubbing away to Leicester City the previous week. "I thought we deserved to win, there's no doubt about that," he said. "It's just about the most satisfying victory I've had since I've been here."'
The News of the World said: 'Simon Davey's Barnsley side went from champs to chumps as they slumped to defeat. Jamie Cureton's first-half clincher brought the Tykes crashing back down to earth after their heroic FA Cup victory at Liverpool.
'Cureton wore the Norwich's skipper's armband for the first time as Mark Fotheringham was banned. And the striker thumped home a 26th minute volley after Barnsley's Dennis Souza accidentally headed Lee Croft's cross into his path.'
Chris Lakey in the EDP wrote: 'Glenn Roeder praised his young guns as Norwich City finally emerged from the darkness of near oblivion into the promised land that is the top half of the Championship table at the weekend.
'A first half goal from Jamie Cureton was enough to beat Barnsley and send City up to 12th place - their highest position since the tables became something meaningful this season.'
