BRANFORD Arms took part in a special day none of the 15-man squad will ever forget. The Division 4a Sunday League outfit were the lucky winners of the Flybe 'be a pro' day at Colney Training Centre.

The team, yet to win a game this season, were given a full training session by City legends Bryan Gunn and Jeremy Goss, a Prozone presentation and lunch in the players' canteen.

The day started with a welcome from Gunny and Gossy in the canteen where the players enjoyed a cup of hot tea to prepare them for the day ahead. They were then led to the changing rooms - Flybe had kindly provided a full Norwich City kit for each players to use during the day.

Branford were eager to get out onto the pitch to show off their talents but before training started, the Club's performance analyst, Liam Weeks, took them through some of the finer points of the game. Liam demonstrated the Prozone system and how it monitors the players' performance levels as well as its use in collecting data on City's opposition. Then it was out onto the pitch.

The session started with a series of drills to get the heart rate up. These involved gentle jogs, quick feet exercises and short sharp sprints. This was followed by a number of drills aimed at turning and quick passing - Gunny and Gossy were constantly vocal, always making sure all the team were applying themselves, whilst Darren Huckerby watched on.

They then moved onto crossing and shooting exercises. Most of the balls ended up in the field behind the goal which kept the Branford Arms landlord, Winton Simpson, extremely busy! And when any shots did go on target, 'keeper Chris Wright kept them out. This was all good practice going into the afternoon's match versus the media team.

The players then had a well earnt rest and made their way to the canteen for lunch prepared by Colney chef Tony Carver and his team. Branford were hungry after their morning work-out and with the big match against the media looming, it was important for them to stock up. Following lunch, Jeremy Goss treated the team to a tour of the training centre where they had a chance to see where the first team change, shower and have physio treatment.

After a carb-filled lunch, Branford were ready to take on the media team and put all their morning's hard work into practice. The media team were led by Norwich City's Head of Media, Joe Ferrari and also included the likes of Rick Waghorn and Anglia's Jim Rice.

The match was full of passion and Branford opened the scoring early on through Sean Dicks. It was end-to-end stuff and Branford really looked like they'd learnt from their training session, but it was the media team who lead at half time, going in 3-2 up.

The second half was a different story as Branford ran away with the victory; 8-4 it ended, the star man being Dean Goodrum who bagged a hat-trick. It was really pleasing for Gunny and Gossy who'd put in so much effort with the team in training. Goss said:

"Some of the finishing today was first class and they did exactly what we'd gone through in training which was pleasing. They've all worked really hard today and it's been a great opportunity for them all."

And Gunny added:

"It's fantastic that Flybe and Norwich City Football Club can come together and provide this once in a lifetime opportunity for grassroots football, and give so many people such a thrilling experience never to forget."
