CITY boss Peter Grant today confirmed former Liverpool and Crewe defender Jon Otsemobor is set to join the Canaries on July 1 in a Bosman deal.

The strong and mobile 24-year-old right-back has agreed personal terms on a three-year contract and passed a medical and is set to join his new team-mates when pre-season training gets underway early next month.

Former England Under-21 international Otsemobor started his career as a trainee at Liverpool and made four first team league appearances for the Premiership giants before a 2003 loan move to Hull City, where he made nine league appearances.

He made a single Premiership appearance on loan for Bolton Wanderers in 2004 and then joined Crewe for a successful loan period in which he made 14 league appearances and scored one goal.

He moved to Rotherham in a free transfer in July 2005 and made ten league appearances, before another permanent move took him to Crewe in the January 2006 transfer window.

In his second spell with the Railwaymen, 'Semi' made a total of 43 league appearances and last season was voted on to the PFA League One Team of the Year, despite a hamstring injury which sidelined him the last couple of months of the campaign.

Grant told First News he was delighted to agree the deal: "I'm very pleased to get this one sorted as he is one that we have been watching for some time. He is strong, athletic and quick and is a very good young defender. He still has a lot to learn of course but it's no surprise to me he was in the League One team of the year.

"He's comfortable on the ball as you'd expect from a player who learned his trade at Liverpool and played a lot of games at Crewe, where Dario Gradi always encourages attractive football."

"He is versatile and as well as full-back can play centre-back or as part of a defensive three. Of course he knows he's still got some learning to do and he's going to be in there competing for a place in the first team with everyone else, but I'm delighted to add a player of his quality to the squad."

"I'm sure the fans will like him when they see him play, and hopefully he will be a major asset to the club for years to come."
