CITY captain Jason Shackell today signed a new contract keeping him at Carrow Road until 2010. Speaking exclusively to canaries.co.uk, Jason said he was very happy to put pen to paper on the new deal.

"It's a good day for me, I wish it could be in better circumstances higher up the league, but I'm very happy," he said.

"Obviously we've got massive expectations and we want to be in the top half of league but we aren't there at the moment, we know we are under-performing on the pitch, we need to get ourselves going and get up the table where Norwich belong and where we want to be."

The defender, who turned 24 last week, came up through the ranks of the Norwich City Academy before making his league debut against Derby in 2003. He has now made 84 league appearances, five as substitute, scoring three goals. Jason was handed the captain's armband by Peter Grant at the beginning of this season, and said he still felt that was more for him to achieve at Carrow Road.

" I want to be playing in a Norwich side that gets promoted to the Premiership, it's as simple as that. That's where every footballer wants to be and Norwich is a club that is more than capable of getting there," said the City captain.

"We've got a great stadium and facilities, and we have got a good team even though we're not performing on the pitch at the moment. We need to be aiming to get up to the Premiership and i want to be part of a Norwich side that does that."
