CITY CHIEF EXPECTS NEW PLAYERS
CITY chief executive Neil Doncaster expects to see new players arrive at Carrow Road on loan in time for the Canaries' next match.
City face Coventry on November 24 following the end of the two-week international break, and Doncaster said he hoped to see "at least one more player, hopefully more" added to the ranks.
Manager Glenn Roeder has made no secret of his need for fresh bodies if he is to successfully drag Norwich City out of the relegation zone.
And Doncaster, speaking in his weekly column in the Eastern Daily Press, said work was going on behind the scenes to make this happen - particularly after the embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Plymouth.
"With the weaknesses in our squad so painfully laid bare, the need for players to bolster the squad and increase competition for places as Glenn charts our way out from the relegation zone is obvious and pressing," he said.
"But, as Palace boss Neil Warnock observed this week, 'players in the Premier League are prepared to stay in the reserves because they don't want to travel and stay in a hotel - they're not hungry enough for it'.
"So, how do we overcome this challenge? Firstly, Glenn's excellent contacts in the game are just one of the reasons why he was appointed as our boss. The respect in which he is held by senior figures in the game and the dialogue that is he able to have with managers at the highest level should boost our chances of bringing in additional recruits."
Doncaster went on to add that the Canaries had the infrastructure in place to attract players to Colney and Carrow Road, and believed they would stand the Club in good stead when hunting for fresh recruits.
"Hence why we were able to prise Martin Taylor out of Birmingham and why I firmly believe that by the time we face Coventry at home on Saturday, November 24, Glenn will have been able to bolster our squad with the addition of at least one player, hopefully more, to the senior ranks.
"Until then, Glenn and I will continue working hard behind the scenes, talking to managers, chief execs and agents to scour the football world for players who have the attributes necessary to come into a challenging situation and fight to move us back up the Championship table.
"Over the next 10 days I fully expect to see players coming into Carrow Road on trial and/or on loan."
