CITY boss Glenn Roeder has said he plans to make big changes to the squad over the summer ahead.

Speaking after the Canaries had slumped to a 4-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in their final Championship match of the season, Roeder told First News he had kept the City players back long after the final whistle to express his disappointment over their second-half display:

"I told them that second-half display was unacceptable. It was not up to the standards required at Norwich City Football Club. It's particularly disappointing as we should have been home and dry after the first half when we battered them.

"Unfortunately once again we just didn't put away enough of the numerous chances we created during the first half and that has happened too many times this season."

Roeder also said Mark Clattenburg's decision to award a penalty against Jason Shackell for a challenge on Deon Burton in the 21st minute was a mistake - and one which arguably provided a turning point to the match.

He commented: "I actually think Mark is one of the better referees around, but he's made a mistake in my opinion today. Replays clearly show the challenge was actually outside the box and also that Jason has got his toe on the ball and hit it back to his 'keeper. So that's two mistakes if you like! But he (Clattenburg) is human and we all make mistakes."

If the first-half display was good, the second half display was poor and Roeder was disappointed with the way the team capitulated - particularly after Dion Dublin received a memorable ovation from both sets of fans when he was substituted in the 66th minute.

Roeder said: "I'm not surprised both sets of fans applauded Dion, he's an immense character and he's had a marvellous career. Dion was emotional about the reception he received and it takes a lot to get Dion emotional.

"But the lads are really disappointed they haven't given Dion a decent send-off by losing 4-1 and the last three goals were all down to mistakes and poor defending.

"It's just not good enough. We've got a lot of players out of contact now. Some of them will be staying and some of them will be going. There are are too many who have got too used to losing and I don't want that around the place.

"So it's going to be a busy summer with a major rebuilding going on. I know the Board will do everything they can to support me, we will just have to wait and see what's available to work with."

Finally Roeder congratulated Wednesday on confirming their Championship status for next season. He said: "I'm disappointed by the way we have played but congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday. I know the pressure Brian Laws will have been feeling in the build-up to the match as I have been there myself as a manager.

"Full credit to them and we look forward to playing them again next season."
