GARY Doherty has told Canaries.co.uk that as part of his new deal with Norwich, he's changed his squad number from 27 to 12.

Asked for the reasons behind this numerical alteration, Doc said there was significant meaning behind the decision.

"It's all about superstition. Since I came to Norwich, my goal tally's been rubbish really. I used to wear 12 at Luton and Tottenham, and I used to be quite free-scoring during those times.

"It's just a little thing but I'm hoping that it might jar the brain as to how to score the odd goal again and hopefully I can get a few more this season."

After completing a new two-year deal with City, the defender is looking firmly to the future. Doc commented: "I'm delighted to be back and see all the lads again. It's tough work, obviously we've just changed the backroom staff and the fitness people, so it's not going to be something I'm used to.

"We should be up there, I really believe we could be if we just get key signings. Obviously the Gaffer is looking to add quite a few more players and hopefully they can help push us to promotion. We have proved that we've got good results in us but we just need a more consistent form and the main thing is getting off to a good start.
