NORWICH City players from yesteryear will be pitting their wits against local rivals Ipswich Town in a special exhibition match in aid of the Canaries' Historical Trust.

The match on Sunday, September 7 will see Canary legend Bryan Gunn and Town favourite Simon Milton retake the captaincies of the two sides.

A similar event was organised two years ago by the Trust and follows on from several other celebratory reunion events since it's creation in 2002. Fans witnessed a 4-4 draw back in 2006 with players such as Robert Fleck, Dale Gordon, Alex Mathie and Jason Dozzell all taking to the Carrow Road turf.

And Gunny said he was looking forward to locking horns with their rivals from down the A140 again.

"I'm delighted to be taking charge of the Norwich City X1 that will be taking on our old rivals ITFC on September 7," said Gunn.

"Once again I'll be pitting my wits against Simon Milton and his old team mates and we hope that the game is as exciting as our previous encounter. We hope that there will be a large crowd there on the day to cheer us on and it will be great to see some new old faces back at Carrow Road to support the Historical Trust's fund raising event."

Milton, who made 258 start and 71 substitute appearances for Ipswich between 1987 and 1997, said he was more than happy to put a team together for the event.

"Any Norwich v Ipswich derby is a match worth playing in, the last time at Carrow Road was a great game and our ex-players enjoyed rolling back the years to take part. I shall be assessing my players' fitness in the weeks leading up to the game and bringing a squad of veterans to take on Gunny's boys.

"Hopefully there will be a large crowd and I will be promoting the game at Portman Road to get some Ipswich support on the day," he said.

The event will start with all the former players present being introduced to the crowd through a parade at 2pm. The exhibition match will then kick-off at 3pm. Spectators will be seated in the Jarrold Stand only for the match, with tickets priced at £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.

There will also be a two-course buffet meal in the evening, which is priced at £15 a ticket.

All proceeds will go to the Historical Trust, which is a registered charity set-up to maintain and preserve all aspects of Norwich City's history for future generations of supporters.
