CITY RES 3 MK DONS RES 1
CITY reserves put on a solid performance this evening beating MK Dons reserves 3-1 at Carrow Road.
In the final reserve fixture of the season, Paul Stephenson named a young side to face the Dons, with Michael Spillane the only player in the starting 11 to have played first team football for Norwich this season.
The Canaries positive start was rewarded when they took the lead with a fantastic goal from Damon Lathrope in the 10th minute. The midfielder, who has now signed a professional contract with Glenn Roeder's side, collected the ball after the Dons closed down a Korey Smith shot. Finding space Lathrope struck a thunderbolt from 25 yards that powered into the top right hand corner of the net leaving Fox in the Milton Keynes Goal with no chance.
Kelly had a good chance to make it 2-0 in the 19th minute, but his shot cleared the bar from the edge of the box. The striker however made no mistake with his second chance in the 22nd minute. A cross from the left wing found Dawkins on the right. The midfielder turned his man in the box and rolled a pass to Kelly who slotted home from the edge of the six-yard box.
The visitor's first real chance of the game fell in the 33rd minute. A cross from the right found Daniel Powell unmarked in the area but he failed to control his volley which cleared declan Rudd's bar into the lower N & P stand.
Half-time: 2-0
The Dons had their 'keeper to thank that they weren't further behind as City forced two good saves from Kurt Fox in the 53rd minute. First a powerful shot from Bally Smart was blocked, followed by a goal-line save from a Nick Davey header in the following attack.
The 'keeper was called into action again in the 65th minute. Smart continued to cause problems down the left flank, and cut the inside ball to Davey. At a stretch he hit a curling shot which Fox got his finger tips to pushing the ball onto the post.
City sealed the game in the 70th minute. Clever precise passing between Kelly and substitute Tom Adeyami allowed Josh Dawkin to find space in the box and drill a shot low and hard across the goal into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
The visitors got one back in the 74th minute with a smart finish from Baldock who curled a shot past Rudd from 20 yards.
Lathrope had a great chance to claim his second in the 76th minute. A long looping ball from Eagle at left back found Lathrope who had beaten the offside trap. One-on-one with the Dons 'keeper, the midfielder failed to beat Fox who closed the ball down on the edge of the area.
